A website is an essential tool for any voice actor. It's a great way to showcase your work, list your credits, and let potential clients know how to get in touch with you. But with so many website builders out there, it can be tough to know where to start!
Finding the best website builder for you will depend on your budget, technical skills, and design preferences. We'll run through a few of the best website builders for voice actors, as well as some things to keep in mind when creating your website!
WIX. If you're looking for an inexpensive option that doesn't require any coding knowledge, we recommend using WIX. The platform offer beautiful templates that can be customized to fit your needs, and they have built-in features that make it easy to add audio and video files to your website. In addition, WIX is free to use - meaning that you can create a professional website without breaking the bank. Please note that you will not be able to connect your domain name “your name . com” with the free version of WIX. It will also display brand ads. This is why we recommend going with a WIX Combo or WIX Unlimited Plan at the very least to ensure your voiceover website looks professional! Click here for a completely free WIX Tutorial!
SQUARESPACE. Squarespace is another popular option for voice actors looking to create a professional website. It’s great for online retail, but it lacks customization and the websites can end up looking ‘template-y.’ However, you can create a beautiful and clean looking website via Squarespace in a web browser without any coding required. If you don't mind your website looking like other websites out there, Squarespace can be a great option. Especially if you are not someone who is very tech savvy! WORDPRESS. If you have some coding knowledge and are looking for complete control over the design of your site, WordPress is a great option for your voiceover site. However, keep in mind that WordPress can be more expensive than other platform since you'll need to purchase hosting and a domain name separately. You'll also need to spend some time learning how to use WordPress before you can create a fully functioning website. We do not recommend WordPress for people without a coding background as it can be complex and time consuming to learn (due in part to its reliance on HTML code). As such, it may not be the best option for voice actors who aren't particularly web-savvy. Click here for a completely free WordPress tutorial!
Creating a professional voiceover website doesn't have to be difficult or expensive—thanks in large part to platforms like WIX & Squarespace, which both offer free versions! However, we do recommend paying for a hosting plan to ensure your custom domain ("your name dot com") can be connected. Just remember to keep things professional and include key elements like your demo reels, credits/awards, and contact information—and you'll be well on your way to attracting new clientele in no time!
